Born on August 4, 1961, Democrat Barack Hussein Obama served in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004. In November 2004, he won the election to the U.S. Senate with a landslide margin of 70 % votes. He has authored two books: a memoir called Dreams from My Father, and a commentary on US politics called The Audacity of Hope.
